Welcome to Philosophy 107!

PHI 107: This course is concerned with techniques for identifying an argument, its components, and suppositions, and for evaluating all these elements. Besides the analysis of arguments, topics will include deductive and inductive forms, rational decision-making, and recognition of informal fallacies. Emphasis will be placed on heightening the student’s ability to convey ideas concisely, to formulate arguments clearly, and to appraise them critically.

All of the above referenced philosophical foundations will be presented through a Critical Theory Lens.  Not only will centering a Critical Theory Lens allow us to amplify the most oft-muted voices in philosophy, but it will also teach us to analyze power dynamics.  This course encompasses history, genealogy, sociology, psychology, and various other forms of study in understanding others’ and developing our own personal philosophies.

In an attempt to effectively support students in successfully completing Social Justice Composition,  I will be hosting live Zoom sessions for our asynchronous course on Tuesdays from 11 am – 12:30 pm. Here is the link for weekly classes. Please attend class if you are able to do so.  Moreover, I will be hosting office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm and Thursdays from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. The scheduling link for Zoom office hours is here: Office hour appointments. Please take advantage of the resources I am providing, and feel free to contact me at [email protected] if there is anything else that I can do to support you.
